The Caproni Casts

30 January until 30 June 2014, Cornaro Institute, Larnaca

Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Closed Sundays and public holidays.

The Cornaro Institute is proud to display two of the historic Caproni Casts made by the Florentine sculptor Pietro Carpon in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, about 100 years ago.

The historic casts are taken directly from the Venus de Milo and the Poseidon of Artimision. It is not possible to take original casts any more as the museums that own the original sculptures do not allow them to be touched, so these are rare items. In fact Caproni Casts are very are highly regarded, and can be found in museums like the Victoria and Albert Museum and Royal Academy in London, and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

The casts came to the Cornaro Institute in Larnaca from the Jerusalem Studio School of Art, and were shipped over from Israel with help from the Herbert Read Trust.

Entry is free. Please note these are fragile sculptures. Please do not touch them and please make sure children are supervised closely when visiting.
